Mike recently joined the firm, having last served as Director and Senior Patent Counsel of VeriSign, Inc., where he managed the company’s patent program. At VeriSign he developed a comprehensive patent strategy integrating protection of company IP assets into the product development lifecycle, formalized the identification and selection of appropriate IP protection mechanisms, and prepared and prosecuted U.S. and international patent applications. Mike was also responsible for managing and monetizing the company patent portfolio, conducting competitive IP analyses, addressing freedom to operate issues and handled all IP aspects of the company’s M&A efforts including those raised in connection with the divestiture of the company’s authentication business. Before joining VeriSign, Mike was in private practice at Morrison & Forester and Fulbright & Jaworski and was in-house patent counsel at Bell Atlantic (now Verizon.)

Mike received his BA in Mathematics and Physics from the University of the State of New York, BS in electrical engineering from Union College, and JD, MS and DSc in Computer Science with concentration in computer engineering and architecture from the George Washington University. His doctoral work was directed to solving problems in approximate matching using locality sensitive hashing to improve identification of nearby codes in high-dimensionality spaces. He is currently pursuing his MBA at the Robert H. Smith School of Business of the University of Maryland. Mike is admitted to practice in Maryland, Virginia, and DC and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the bars of the U.S. Supreme Court, Courts of Appeals for the Federal, D.C. and Fourth Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the District of Columbia, Maryland and the Eastern District of Virginia.

Mike lives with his family in Potomac, Maryland near Washington, DC.
