For In-House Counsel

Patent GC can act as an extension of your in-house capabilities.  For companies with corporate counsel, but no in-house IP counsel, we can play the role of in-house IP counsel on an on-demand, part-time basis.   For companies with existing in-house IP counsel, we can supplement the work done by the in-house team, allowing work such as patent prosecution, patentability analyses and special projects to be done in-house, rather than being sent to expensive outside counsel.

For the General Counsel

As General Counsel, you handle your company’s day-to-day legal matters and hire and supervise outside counsel on specialized matters.  If you don’t have a patent background, however, you may find - like many in-house GCs - that managing the company’s patent matters is difficult and frustrating.  We can help.  All Patent GC attorneys have been in-house counsel, and understand the importance of aligning IP strategy with business strategy.   We also understand the importance of managing to a budget and keeping costs under control.  Whether you engage us to take some of your patent prosecution work at a reduced cost, or ask us to act as part-time “in-house” IP counsel to help manage outside resources and coordinate your company’s patent committee, we can bring the experience, efficiency and management to your company’s IP legal matters that you are able to bring to the company’s corporate, compliance and litigation matters.

For the in-house IP lawyer

As in-house IP counsel, you are likely to find yourself overburdened with project work from time to time.  But you may not have the budget to hire another in-house IP lawyer, and you’d prefer not to send out your project work to a traditional firm because of cost and lack of in-house experience.  Patent GC is a great solution.  We can be your overflow safety valve; when things are too busy, we can step in to help out. Think of us as a member of your team, but without the commitment of adding to your full-time staff and without the burden of training a junior lawyer.
