Alison Kessler is a seasoned life sciences attorney with 20 years of legal and business experience representing companies at all stages of development using a practical, risk-based, strategic approach in providing legal advice that supports business goals and helps manage change. She has extensive background providing timely, high-quality, actionable counsel on corporate, IP, commercial and regulatory matters, while partnering with other departments and stakeholders.
Alison regularly structures, negotiates, and closes mutually beneficial transactions by levering sound legal knowledge and business judgement spanning across a broad range of domestic and international life sciences-related agreements including:

• Licensing (in- and out-)
• Development (including joint development)
• University research
• Permissions to Use (video, image, copyright, TM)
Prior to joining Outside GC, Alison served as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel of Cosette Pharmaceuticals, where she was responsible for all legal matters, including M&A deal strategy and execution, compliance, commercial contracts, and sales and marketing. Alison advised senior management on corporate policy, strategy and processes aligned to risk tolerance and business goals. She also established compliant contracting processes designed to efficiently manage a high volume of contracts.
Previously, Alison was Global Head of IP for Convatec, where she developed, directed and executed global IP strategy, managed a multi-million dollar IP budget, and oversaw all IP-related issues for the company’s M&A and strategic licensing deals. Before Convatec, Alison served as Global Head of Patents and Assistant General Counsel for Novartis Consumer Health, and as U.S. Head of IP, Business Development and Strategic Licensing for Sandoz, a Novartis company. Alison began her legal career with the global law firm of Goodwin Procter, handling a wide range of litigation and corporate IP matters for companies in the life sciences, food/beverage and high-tech spaces.
Alison graduated from Boston University School of Law and holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering (Robotics concentration) from Tulane University. She is admitted to practice in the States of New York and New Jersey, as well as before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Alison enjoys spending her free time with her family at the beach, surfing, boogie boarding, kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing, in the snow, skiing, as well as hiking and biking. When she’s not playing sports, Alison enjoys working on home improvement projects both in and outside the house.
