Jenn Karnakis is a biotechnology intellectual property attorney with over 15 years of experience in patent prosecution and patent portfolio management.

Prior to joining Patent GC, Jenn was a partner in the intellectual property group of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo PC and special counsel in the intellectual property group of Cooley LLP. In both of these roles, her practice focused on emerging life sciences and biotechnology companies, research institutes, and universities working in a wide variety of technologies, including antibody and other protein-based therapeutics, nucleic acid therapeutics, bioengineered vessels and other grafts, CRISPR, medical devices, and molecular diagnostics. By focusing her practice on small to midsize companies, Jenn was able to function as the de facto in-house counsel providing strategic counseling in all areas of her practice to allow clients to maximize the value of their portfolios in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Working directly with the scientists and/or hand-in-hand with small in-house intellectual property groups in these emerging companies, she was primarily responsible for developing complex patent portfolios and implementing worldwide patent strategies for the prosecution, licensing, and enforcement of those patents during all phases of her clients’ growth.

Jenn’s areas of expertise include comprehensive involvement in all aspects of foreign and domestic patent prosecution and strategy, such as preparing U.S. and foreign patent applications; conducting freedom-to-operate analyses, non-infringement and invalidity opinion work; resolving inventorship determinations; performing IP due diligence activities; and assisting clients with IP licensing transactions, Initial Public Offerings, and other financing transactions.

Jenn received an AB in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard College and a JD from Cornell School of Law. Jenn is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Outside the office, Jenn is an avid reader, an enthusiastic (albeit moderately talented) volleyball player, and a diehard Boston sports fan who can often be found at the Garden cheering on her beloved Celtics with her father.
